Vertus is a charming village of 2,500 inhabitants situated in the heart of the Côte des Blancs vineyards, cradle of the Chardonnay grapevines. Located 20km south of Epernay, Vertus is renowned for its elegant premier cru champagne. Vines have been grown here since the 3rd century and the vineyards have expanded continuously over time.
Paul Charpentier, son and grandson to winemakers from Vertus, started learning about winegrowing from an early age. He is in charge of maintaining his family heritage and decided to take the business a step further by selling his champagne. He chose to entrust production of his champagne to a cooperative as a way of ensuring he could offer customers a consistent quality of wine, creating the PAUL CHARPENTIER brand in 1955. Over the years, he has succeeded in developing his customer base as well as brand.
